Traveling to Bolinas-Stinson Beach
About Bolinas
Bolinas, or ‘BO’ as locals call it, is a secluded coastal town nestled on the edge of the Point Reyes National Seashore. Bo celebrates its rich landscape, wildlife, and artistic spirit in partnership with nature, not wanting to be found by its well-heeled neighbors across the Golden Gate Bridge.
First inhabitants of the area were the Coast Miwok, who lived off the abundant marine and land-based resources. The town of Bolinas was later established as one of the earliest fishing and shipping settlements on the California Coast, known for its oyster beds and maritime economy.
For us, Bolinas is a sanctuary — a place pure in spirit that never fails to leave us better. Our hope is that your visit touches you in a similar way. We invite you to invest an hour or two to explore, away from the festivities and see what you find.
On this page, you’ll find a few of our favorite gems from a town who’s preserved that California magic which is always there if you open your eyes and ears.
By Plane
San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) airports provide the fastest, cheapest service to the Bay Area.
If you want to lower your stress, skip city traffic, and are willing to pay a bit more, we recommend Santa Rosa (STS) airport. Nothing says vacation like landing in wine country.
Once arrived, from any of the region’s airports, budget 1.5 to 2 hours for your drive to Bolinas-Stinson.
Getting There
By Car
Driving from the south or east? Enjoy the scenic, twisting Shoreline or Panoramic Highways over Mt. Tamalpais - Dramamine wouldn’t hurt.
Coming from the north, descend the Pacific Coast Highway (Route 1). If time permits, pause at Tomales Bay: Marshall’s waterfront cafés serve freshly shucked oysters.
If you’re arriving from the west, you’re likely sailing in, already traveling in style.
Wherever you start, keep your speed relaxed and aim to reach us before sunset, around 7:30 pm.
Parking & Shuttles
Summer in Bolinas-Stinson means increased traffic from people leaving San Francisco, specifically on the weekends.
Parking is generally limited in beach and downtown areas. Please plan accordingly, give yourself extra time, and if you snag some prime real estate for your vehicle, consider leaving it in place.
We’ll be running shuttles to/from Willow Camp on Sunday as the wedding venue on Rose Lane has limited on-site parking.
Lodging
Events will take place in Stinson Beach and Bolinas. We recommend staying in either of these towns as primary options.
Secondary locations of Point Reyes, Inverness, and Muir Beach have good availability and are within a half hour drive.
